Parliament, Friday, 6 December 2024 – The Portfolio Committee on Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities has shortlisted 20 names of people to be interviewed to fill vacancies at the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) Board. The committee met on Tuesday to successfully complete the shortlisting process for candidates applying for the Board positions.
Having agreed to and adopted the criteria for shortlisting, the committee went through a process for shortlisting 20 candidates to be interviewed from the 1 412 applications received. The shortlisted candidates reflect a diverse demographic, in line with the NYDA’s mandate to represent South Africa’s demographics and geography.
The names of the shortlisted candidates will be published on Parliament’s website. This will give civil society an opportunity to comment on and engage with the shortlist, ensuring transparency and inclusivity throughout the selection process. The closing date for comments from members of the public and civil society is 15 January 2025.
The committee acknowledges the importance of this initiative in advancing youth development in South Africa and is committed to appointing members who will uphold the NYDA’s vision, mission and objectives.
Committee Chairperson Ms Liezl van der Merwe said, “We encourage members of the public to review the shortlisted candidates and provide their feedback.”
