JOB SUMMARY

Parliament of South Africa is seeking research professionals that would be responsible to provide strategic research support to the Members and Committees on their oversight, legislative, public and international participation functions. Furthermore, to provide specialised research support to the senior management of Parliament.

As a successful candidate, your key responsibilities will be:

  • Conduct Research
  • Strategic Research Support and Planning
  • Oversight Support, Public and International Participation
  • Operational Procedure and Sector Specialisation
  • Quality Control and Information Dissemination
  • Additional Support Services

To qualify for Researcher: PC on Petitions & Government Undertakings, you must have:

  • Applicants should be in possession of a grade 12 certificate and a minimum of an Honours Degree (Equivalent to NQF level 8) in Public Management/Administration, Political Science, Public Policy, Developmental Studies, Public Finance, Law, Economics or Social Sciences. A master’s degree will be advantageous.
  • This should be coupled with three years relevant work-related (applied) research experience. Applicants should possess sector-specific knowledge and understanding of the public service legislative and policy framework and display a thorough understanding of governance processes.
To qualify for Researcher: PC on the Presidency, you must have:
  • Applicants should be in possession of a grade 12 certificate and a minimum of an Honours Degree (Equivalent to NQF level 8) in Political Science, Public Policy, Governance and Public Leadership, Law, Monitoring and Evaluation. A master’s degree will be advantageous.
  • This should be coupled with three years relevant work-related (applied) research experience. Applicants should possess sector-specific knowledge and understanding of the public service legislative and policy framework and display a thorough understanding of governance processes
You must also demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of Parliamentary policies, procedures and management systems
  • Operational planning and project management skills
  • Understanding the sensitivities within a political environment
  • Proven organisational and administrative skills
  • Sound oral and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal & creative skills

  • Ability to work under sustained pressure
  • Computer literacy including MS Office packages, Internet and Outlook
  • Stress management [self-management]
  • Ability to work extraordinary working hours
