Parliament, Sunday, 21 April 2024 – The Presiding Officers of Parliament, Acting Speaker of the National Assembly Mr Lechesa Tsenoli, and Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces Mr Amos Masondo, extend their heartfelt condolences to the family of the late former Member of Parliament, Dr Motsoko Pheko, who has recently passed away.

His unwavering commitment to advocating for the rights of the dispossessed and landless has left an indelible impact, continuing to inspire those dedicated to the pursuit of justice and freedom. A distinguished scholar and author, his legacy is one of resilience, steadfastness, and a deep commitment to challenging colonial narratives and championing African perspectives.

Dr Pheko was a versatile parliamentarian whose immense contributions enriched the parliamentary discourse and oversight committees in which he participated, including those on International Relations, Safety and Security, Justice and Constitutional Development, and Culture, Arts, Science, and Technology.

The Presiding Officers of Parliament extend their deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues during this time of grief.
