Parliament, Sunday, 13 September 2026 – The Speaker of the National Assembly, Ms Thoko Didiza, will tomorrow (Monday, 14 September 2026) lead a high-level engagement of the Parliamentary Network for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health.

The engagement will be held under the theme: “Strengthening Parliamentary Action for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health: Commonwealth Leadership for Resilient Communities in a Changing World Order.”

Convened alongside the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC), the engagement brings together members of the Parliamentary Network for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health to advance parliamentary action on the health and wellbeing of women, children and adolescents. Chaired by Speaker Didiza, the Parliamentary Network was launched at the 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Geneva in October 2025.

The Network is supported by the IPU and the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (PMNCH). It seeks to strengthen parliamentary cooperation and action on legislation, sustainable financing, and accountability related to women’s, children’s, and adolescents’ health.

The engagement will bring together Parliamentarians to exchange experiences and identify practical ways in which Parliaments can use their legislative, budgetary, oversight and representative functions to translate commitments into measurable improvements in the health of women, children and adolescents. Discussions will focus particularly on strengthening implementation, sustainable financing and accountability.

The Parliamentary Network complements and supports the work of the Global Leaders Network (GLN) for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health. Initiated in 2023 and chaired by President Cyril Ramaphosa, the GLN is a Southern-led global health diplomacy initiative that brings together sitting Heads of State and Government to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) relating to women’s, children’s and adolescents’ health.
