Parliament, Monday, 9 June 2025 – Chairpersons of the parliamentary Governance Cluster Oversight Committees are scheduled to brief members of the media today, 9 June 2025. The briefing is part of the 7th Parliament’s regular Committee Cluster Media Engagement programme and will be held under the theme: Promoting values of accountability, transparency and fairness.
The Chairpersons will address members of the media on the work undertaken by each of the Governance Cluster Oversight Committees since their last engagement.
Dr Zweli Mkhize, the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, will address members of the media on:
• The local government 2023/24 audit outcomes, and
• The winter initiation season.
Mr Jan de Villiers, the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Public Service and Administration, will brief the media on:
• Ghost workers in the public service, and
• Youth employment in the public service.
The Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Auditor-General, Mr Wouter Wessels, will outline several issues that are negatively affecting the Auditor-General’s Office, including:
• Threats facing the Auditor-General of South Africa, and
• Municipal payments to the Auditor-General.
The 7th Parliament’s Committee Cluster media engagements provide members of the media and all other stakeholders, including members of the public, an unrivalled opportunity to gain a considered understanding on how Parliament’s extensive oversight and law-making functions are being performed, with particular focus on how Parliament influences governance and transparency, while also promoting public accountability as the legislative arm of government to which the executive must account, for their individual and collective functions and performance.
