Parliament, Friday 27 May 2016 - The Ad hoc Committee established to facilitate processes for the appointment of a new Public Protector has today elected, Dr Makhosi Khoza as its Chairperson.

Taking the Chair for the first time, Dr Khoza said she was humbled by the confidence displayed by Committee members for tasking her with the responsibility. She said she will do her best in ensuring that the Committee meets its end of August 2016 deadline.

Dr Khoza said the Committee will meet next week Wednesday to discuss the advert and related processes as well as the Committee programme going forward. She added that the Committee will ensure the public will have their say in nominating the appropriate person for the job through the advert.

Dr Khoza hails from KwaZulu-Natal and currently serves as a member of the Standing Committee on Finance. Prior to becoming an MP of the Fifth Parliament, Dr Khoza held numerous senior positions in the public and private sectors. Notably, she was a Deputy Mayor in Pietermaritzburg at the age of 26 in 1996, served as a CEO of the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) and was one of the managers at Standard Corporate and Merchant Bank (SCMB).

She is not new in the legislative sector, as she has been a Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts and ANC Chief Whip at the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Legislature, between 2009 and 2012.

Her qualifications include a Doctoral Degree in Administration and Masters in Public Policy.
