Parliament, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 – The Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises notes the developments at Eskom. The Committee wishes to express its disappointment in the latest developments, which are in the public domain.

The Committee issued an invitation to the Minister of Public Enterprises to engage her on these developments within the power utility. The Acting Committee Chairperson, Ms Zukiswa Rantho, said: “As the oversight body to the department and the power utility, the Committee wanted the Minister and Eskom executives and board to appear before the Committee so that we would be able to listen and hear what is happening from all affected parties.”

The Committee has learned that the Minister has been summoned to court by a member of the Committee. Ms Rantho said: “We are unable to discuss the matter as it is sub judice and, as the Committee we are unable to do proper oversight as planned. What is important is stability and effective and efficient governance,” Ms Rantho said.
