Parliament, Friday, 11 September 2015 - The Presiding Officers today successfully concluded a workshop on the Report of the Ad Hoc Committee on the Review of the Chapter 9 and Associated Institutions.
It was the first engagement of its kind that included the relevant Ministers, the Portfolio Committee Chairs, Commissioners, Heads of the Institutions Supporting Constitutional Democracy (ISDs) and Associated Institutions.
Participants made presentations, including internal independent experts on human rights, such as Justice Navi Pillay and Professor Karthy Govender.
The workshop was a continuation of engagements which commenced on 27 February 2015 between the Heads of the ISDs and the Presiding Officers.
The 5th Parliament has undertaken to engage ISDs and relevant stakeholders on the recommendations of the Asmal report.
This workshop agreed that further discussion will take place going forward.
