Parliament, Thursday, 09 April 2020 – The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Health, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, said he has discussed a portfolio committee teleconference meeting scheduled to take place tomorrow with the Minister of Health, Dr Zweli Mkhize. The meeting is scheduled to take place tomorrow, 10 April (Good Friday).

After the meeting, the committee will provide a report-back, Dr Dhlomo said. “The nature of a teleconference means that members of the media and the public cannot be part of it,” said Dr Dhlomo.

“We are aware that the Minister has been briefing the country regarding Covid-19, but we felt that as the committee leading in Parliament on issues of health, we should be engaging with the Minister, as there are other problems and programmes that we are detecting,” he added.

Among other things, the committee will engage the minister on issues covered in the media concerning protective equipment in healthcare facilities and the progress with Covid-19 screening in various provinces.
