Parliament, Tuesday, 22 October 2019 – The Select Committee on Petitions and Executive Undertakings will over the next two days, visit the Eastern Cape Province to interact with petitioners that submitted a petition on behalf of the AbaThembu Nation. The petition urges the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) to intervene in respect of the alleged prejudice against the Thembuland Royal Empire.

The committee received the petition from Ms Thembi Tembe, who is the Chief Protocol Officer of the Thembuland Royal Empire, which alleges various concerns that centre on the treatment and prejudice suffered by the Thembuland Royal Empire. Some of the complaints raised include that:

the land restitution process is prejudicial against the Thembuland Royal Empire,

the petitioner alleges that the justice system in South Africa has been manipulated and abused with the intention of destroying the AbaThembu nation,

there are activities to sabotage the socio-economic development projects initiated by the Thembuland Royal Empire.

The committee will receive submissions from His Majesty, Zanelizwe Dalindyebo, Acting King, of the Abathembu Nation, the Department of Land Reform and Rural Development, National Land Claims Commissioner, MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs and the Mayor of the OR Tambo District Municipality.
