Parliament, Tuesday, 24 March 2026 – Parliament’s Presiding Officers have learnt with profound sadness and shock of the sudden passing of uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party Member of Parliament (MP), Mr Ntandoyenkosi Nkosentsha Shezi.
The Speaker of the National Assembly, Ms Thoko Didiza, and the Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Ms Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane, said they received with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss the news of the untimely passing of a principled and committed public servant, whose life embodied unwavering dedication to the service of the people of South Africa. They emphasised that his passing is a significant loss not only to Parliament but to the broader democratic project, which relies on selfless leaders of conviction.
Mr Shezi joined the National Assembly in 2024 as an MK Party representative from KwaZulu-Natal. During his tenure in Parliament, he served with dedication on the Portfolio Committee on Employment and Labour, the Portfolio Committee on Tourism, and the Portfolio Committee on Trade, Industry and Competition.
“Parliament has been robbed of a devoted public representative who demonstrated an untiring commitment to serving the people of South Africa. Honourable Shezi carried out his parliamentary responsibilities with diligence and enthusiasm, contributing meaningfully to the oversight work of the committees on which he served,” said the Presiding Officers.
Parliament conveys its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and his political home, the MK Party. May his loved ones and colleagues find comfort in the knowledge that he served the nation’s legislature with integrity and dedication.
