Parliament, Friday, 5 June 2026 – The Presiding Officers of Parliament, led by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ms Thoko Didiza, and the Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Ms Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane, have received the news of the passing of Member of Parliament, Mr Edward Muzikayise Ntshingila, with profound shock and sorrow.
Mr Ntshingila, an MP for the uMkhonto weSizwe Party in the NA since 2024, was appointed to the Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence (JSCI) in March 2025 and sworn in to serve in the committee in June 2025.
In exercising parliamentary oversight over the nation’s intelligence services, Mr Ntshingila understood that true guardianship requires both vigilance and restraint. During his brief tenure in the JSCI, Mr Ntshingila carried the weight of his constitutional responsibilities with uncommon diligence.
His contributions strengthened the architecture of South Africa’s democracy and reflected an unyielding belief in a state that is responsive, transparent and just. He will be remembered as a parliamentarian who did not seek the spotlight but who led the path toward a more equitable society through quite resolve and steadfast action.
Parliament bows in collective grief and extends its deepest, most heartfelt condolences to the Ntshingila family, his loved ones, his friends, and his comrades in the ongoing struggle for a better South Africa. To all who were touched by his life, Parliament mourns with you.
