Parliament, Thursday 24, December 2020 – Parliament’s Presiding Officers, led by Speaker of National Assembly, Ms Thandi Modise and Chairperson of National Council of Provinces Mr Amos Masondo, are deeply saddened by the untimely passing on of Adv Loyiso Mpumlwana, African National Congress Member of Parliament.

Adv Mpumlwana was recently sworn in as a National Assembly Member of Parliament on 12 June 2020 and served in the Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises. Previously, he was a Member of the 5th democratic Parliament and served in the Portfolio Committee on Justice and Constitutional Development, Portfolio Committee on International Relations and Cooperation, Constitutional Review Committee and the Ad hoc Joint Committee on Probing Violence against Foreign Nationals.

“Adv Mpumlwana was a human rights activist who was steadfast in standing up for justice and equality for all. He was a selfless leader who sacrificed his life in underground operatives fighting for the emancipation of South Africans,” said the Presiding Officers.

“His valuable contribution in the various committees greatly advanced the oversight programme of Parliament. He was an embodiment of a highly disciplined, humble, and patriotic servant. We pay homage to his legacy of selflessness and integrity as a public representative and a lifelong activist,” added the Presiding Officers.

Parliament extends heartfelt condolences to Adv Mpumlwana’s family, political home – African National Congress, colleagues and friends.
