Parliament, Thursday 30 August 2018 – National Council of Provinces' (NCOP’s) Mr Eddie Makue decries poor participation of local government leaders during the NCOP’s flagship programme of Taking Parliament to the People in Botshabelo and Thabanchu as part of a report back to the citizens.
Mr Makue is one of the eight leaders of groups of Parliamentarians who are on an inspection visit to various health care service delivery sites in the Mangaung Metropolitan and Xhariep District Municipalities. He said the follow-up engagements of the NCOP’s Taking Parliament to the People programme assists in closing many gaps in performance reports submitted by various state institutions, while also assisting in testing the validity of the evidence provided as well as in strengthening the collaboration of all three spheres of the legislative sector.

Mr Makue led a group of NCOP members and Free State Members of Provincial Legislature that inspected service delivery progress in Thaba Nchu which included Klipfontein, Kgalala, Seadimo and Mafane Clinics. The follow-up visits and report back sessions of the NCOP were introduced to assess progress in implementing commitments and recommendations reached during the August 2017 TPTTP programme. Today, 30 August 2018, Mr Makue’s group will inspect Dinaane Clinic and Dr JS Moroka District Hospital and later give feedback to the citizens at the Samson Sefuthi Community Hall.
The Samson Sefuthi Community Hall public meeting is one of six public engagements with Parliamentarians who are on a report back campaign to the citizens in the Mangaung Metropolitan and Xhariep District Municipalities. The meetings will be in Bloemfontein, Bethulie, Botshabelo, Trompsburg, Koffiefontein and Zastroon starting at 15:00 and 16:00 to cater for even working people. Thousands of people from across the Mangaung Metro and Xhariep District Municipal areas are expected to converge at these six gatherings to hear the feedback of Parliamentarians led by NCOP members.
