Parliament, Friday, 21 December 2018 - The Select Committee on Social Services in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) today adopted the Electoral Laws Amendment Bill (B33B-2018) without any amendments. There were no submissions received from stakeholders and the public.

The Bill was passed by the National Assembly on 28 November and transmitted to the NCOP for concurrence.

The Bill amends the Electoral Commission Act, Electoral Act and Local Government: Municipal Electoral Act. Among other things, it makes it illegal for public funds to be used for political campaigning and makes sure that voters whose addresses aren’t yet on the voters roll will still be able to cast a ballot.

The NCOP will consider the Bill at a special sitting scheduled for 10 January 2019 at 12h00 in the Old Assembly.

Issued by the Parliamentary Communications Services on behalf of the Chairperson of the Select Committee on Social Services, Hon. Ms Catherine Landule Dlamini
