Parliament, Tuesday, 29 March 2022 – The Northern Cape Province’s permanent delegates to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) are in full swing with their week-long, high-impact oversight Provincial Week programme.

The delegation led by the Deputy Chairperson of the NCOP, Ms Sylvia Lucas, began its programme in ZF Mgcawu District Municipality, where it was welcomed by the provincial Premier, Dr Zamini Saul. In his opening remarks, Dr Saul highlighted the crucial role the NCOP plays in promoting the principles of cooperative government and fostering effective intergovernmental relations.

The delegation was briefed on the prevailing conditions in the province by the MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs, Mr Bentley Vass, and the MEC of Tourism and Economic Development, Mr Abraham Vosloo.

The 2022 Northern Cape Provincial Week will focus on the provision of safe drinking water and will assist communities affected by the drought that has tormented the area for many years. The NCOP delegation will prioritise oversight visits to water provision projects, dams, water reticulation sites and provincial storage weirs.
