Parliament, Friday, 14 September 2018 Permanent delegates to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) will, next week (17 to 21 September), visit the Gauteng Province for preliminary visits of the Taking Parliament to the People programme. The preliminary visits are aimed at preparing the ground for the main Taking Parliament to the People (TPTTP) programme expected to take place in November this year.

The theme for this round of the TPTTP programme in Gauteng is the “Impact of migration - Deepening cooperative governance for accelerated service delivery and development.”

The multidisciplinary NCOP led delegation of legislators, will be divided into eight groups that will visit service delivery sites in the Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg and Tshwane Metropolitan, as well as West Rand District Municipalities.

The visit will culminate in public meetings which will be held simultaneously in five different venues across the four municipalities. The public meetings are unmediated opportunities for the citizens to draw the attention of legislators to challenges faced in accessing service delivery.

The information acquired during the preliminary visit and public meetings will be compiled and submitted to the Executive in all three spheres of government for their interventions prior to the main TPTTP programme scheduled for November 2018. This is one of the flagship programmes of the legislatures through which they exercise oversight on the Executive, while also promoting citizen participation in governance.

The TPTTP programme will be preceded by a networking session with members of the media where NCOP Chairperson, Ms Thandi Modise will be setting the scene of the week ahead.

Details of the media networking session are as follows:
