Parliament, Tuesday 10 October 2017 – National Council of Provinces’ (NCOP) permanent delegates will tomorrow, Wednesday 11, and Thursday 12 October, conduct oversight visits at Chris Hani District Municipality. Tomorrow’s oversight visits follow a briefing meeting to be held this morning from 10h00 until 12h00 at the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature (Raymond Mhlaba Chamber Legislature Building in Bisho). This, as the NCOP permanent delegates will be kick-starting the week-long NCOP Provincial Week programme taking place across the country to assess employment creation initiatives by various sectors of society.

In the briefing meeting, the NCOP delegates will be briefed by the MEC for Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Mr Sakhumzi Somyo representing the Premier of the Eastern Cape Province, Mr Phumulo Masualle. Also in attendance will be the Members of the Executive Council (MECs), the Local Government Association (SALGA), Mayors, Members of the Eastern Cape Legislature and other relevant stakeholders who will also be accompanying the NCOP permanent delegates when conducting oversight visits in the respective district municipalities.

The oversight visits on Wednesday by Group Three of the NCOP delegation will begin with a briefing meeting with Councillors, departmental officials and various other stakeholders to take place at Intsika Yethu Local Municipality from 08h30 – 10h30 followed by:

Visit to Ncorha Agricultural Project from 11h30 – 12h30 and 
Visit to Shiloh Irrigation Scheme from 10h00 – 11h00 on Thursday, 12 October.

The Provincial Week provides an opportunity for the NCOP and Legislatures to engage directly with citizens on challenges they experience. It further provides an opportunity to receive reports from Government departments and municipalities on progress made regarding service delivery.
