Parliament, Wednesday 18 March 2020 – The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) will, during its last sitting of the term tomorrow, receive a statement by the Deputy Minister of Health on Covid-19 and consider a report on the notice of intervention in Tshwane.

Rule 251 (1) of the NCOP Rules allows a Member of the Executive to “make a factual or policy statement relating to government policy, any executive action or other similar matter of which the Council should be informed.”

The purpose of the statement is to equip Delegates to the NCOP with appropriate and up-to-date knowledge that they will use to educate their constituencies to curb the spread of the virus. The NCOP is throwing its weight behind the national efforts to stop the spread of the virus.

During the sitting, the NCOP will also consider a report of the Select Committee on Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Water and Sanitation and Human Settlements on the “Notice of intervention issued in terms of section 139(1)(c) of the Constitution, 1996 to City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipal Council, Gauteng.
