Thursday, 4 May 2017 – National Assembly Speaker Ms Baleka Mbete this morning swore in seven new Members of Parliament.

Six are from the African National Congress (ANC) and one is from the Democratic Alliance (DA).

The new MPs, who assume their responsibilities as duly elected public representatives with immediate effect, are:

  1. Ms Rachel Adams - replaces Ms Tina Joemat-Pettersson (ANC)
  2. Mr Yusuf Cachalia - replaces Dr Heinrich Cyril Volmink (DA)
  3. Mr Jabu Dube - replaces Ms Dipuo Peters (ANC)
  4. Mr Simanga Mbuyane - replaces Mr Ngoako Ramatlhodi (ANC)
  5. Mr Terence Mpanza - replaces Ms Agnes Daphne Noluthando Qikani (ANC)
  6. Mr Mbulelo Nkonzo - replaces Mr Mcebisi Jonas (ANC)
  7. Ms Lerato Theko - replaces Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi (ANC)

Following the swearing-in, the Speaker welcomed the new members and wished them well in fulfilling their constitutional responsibilities. As is the practice, the new members will undergo an induction programme to assist them with carrying out their mandate without delay.
