Parliament, Thursday 27 June 2019 – The National Assembly plenary sitting today elected Mr Cedric Frolick, Ms Mmatlala Grace Boroto and Mr Madala Ntombela as House Chairpersons.

The specific duties of these House Chairpersons will be published in the Announcements, Tablings and Committee Report parliamentary paper.

The plenary sitting also approved members to represent Parliament in the Pan-African Parliament, the Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum and designated members to serve on the Judicial Service Commission and the Magistrates Commission.

National Assembly Speaker Ms Thandi Modise and National Council of Provinces Chairperson Mr Amos Masondo will lead Parliament’s representatives in the Pan-African Parliament. Ms Modise will also lead Parliament’s representatives in the Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum and on the Judicial Service Commission.

The members, drawn from the African National Congress, the Democratic Alliance, the Economic Freedom Fighters and the Inkatha Freedom Party, are:

  • Pan-African Parliament – Ms Thandi Modise, Mr Amos Masondo, Ms Pemmy Majodina, Mr Thembekile Majola, Mr Julius Malema
  • Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum – Ms Thandi Modise, Mr Desmond Moela, Mr Tshitereke Matibe, Mr Darren Bergman. Ms Hlengiwe Mkhaliphi, chairperson of the Multiparty Women’s Caucus (this position will be filled when the committees of the National Assembly elect their chairpersons)
  • Judicial Service Commission – Ms Thandi Modise, Mr Gratitude Magwanishe, Mr Vusumuzi Xaba, Advocate Gynnis Breytenbach, Mr Julius Malema, Mr Narend Singh
  • Magistrates Commission – Ms Dorries Dlakude, Mr Qubudile Richard Dyantyi, Mr Werner Horn, Mr Godrich Gardee

The sitting also agreed to revive the Appropriation Bill from the stage it had reached on the last day of the fifth democratic Parliament. The National Assembly has provisionally programmed 23 July for its consideration of the Appropriation Bill.
