Parliament, Wednesday, 4 May 2022 – The National Assembly (NA) and the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) will tomorrow, Thursday, 5 May, convene their respective virtual Programme Committee meetings at 08:30 to plan for the business of Parliament.

Matters for consideration in the agenda during the two Programming Committee meetings include the draft programme of Parliament, committee reports, and Bills before both Houses of the national legislature.

Both the Programme Committee meetings will precede the NA hybrid plenary session, which will be held at 2 pm, to debate a matter of national public importance, themed: “The energy crisis and the threat of a protracted failure of Eskom.” The debate will be followed by consideration of several committee reports that include:

  1. Report of the Portfolio Committee (PC) on Police on Report of Commission for the Gender Equality (CGE) on the State of Shelters in South Africa.
  2. Report of PC on Police on Report of South African Human Rights Commission on National Investigative Hearing into Status of Mental Health Care in South Africa
  3. Consideration of Request for Approval by Parliament of Accession to the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Africa (Report of PC on Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities
  4. Consideration of Request for Approval by Parliament of Accession to the Amended Convention for the Protection, Management and Development of the Marine and Coastal Environment of the Western Indian Ocean (Nairobi Convention) (Report of PC on Environment, Forestry and Fisheries.
