Parliament, Sunday, 10 September 2017 – The Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements will from 11 to 15 September 2017 embark on an oversight visit to Mpumalanga province to assess housing delivery in the province.
The Committee will assess the extent to which the province has implemented the comprehensive, integrated human settlements strategy. The visit will assess progress made in the construction of houses for military veterans and coordination and management of the beneficiary list and incorporation of backyard dwellers into the provincial housing data base. Progress made in the restoration and issuing of title deeds will also be scrutinised. The province’s budget expenditure and performance in meeting service delivery targets for 2016/17 financial year will also be probed.
On Monday and Tuesday, 11-12 September, the Committee will be in Mbombela where it will first receive a briefing on the provincial overview from the provincial department of human settlements in a meeting to be held at the Mbombela Council Chambers on Monday, from 09h00. It will then proceed to visit projects such as Pilgrim’s Rest, Tekwane and Mashishing.
On Wednesday, 13 September, the Committee will be in Bethal, visiting projects such as Embalenhle informal settlements.
On Thursday, 14 September, the Committee will conduct site inspections in Emalahleni on projects such as Siyanqoba RDP, military veterans houses and Empumelelweni.
On Friday, 15 September, the Committee will be in Middleburg inspecting projects such as Rockdale Phase 1 & 2, military veterans houses, Newtown and Hendrina.
