Parliament, Thursday, 03 August 2017 – The Portfolio Committee has moved to Friday, 04 August, the urgent meeting it had called for the Acting National Police Commissioner to respond to challenges related to lack of vehicles and other policing challenges the Committee found during its oversight visit to various police stations and specialised units in KwaZulu-Natal.
The Acting National Police Commissioner, Lt-Gen Lesetja Mothiba, was called on 02 August to urgently appear before the Committee in Durban today (Thursday, 03 August). However, Lt-Gen Mothiba phoned the Chairperson of the Committee, Mr Francois Beukman, and informed him that he is attending a Cabinet lekgotla meeting, and thus requested to appear before the Committee tomorrow.
The meeting will take place at the South African Police Service (SAPS) provincial offices in Durban, from 07h30 at 15 Bram Fischer Road, Durban.
The report from the Acting Head of the Hawks, Lt-Gen Yolisa Matakata, on the break-in at the Hawks Head Offices last month will take place at the same venue tomorrow.
The briefing on the allegations of police involvement in the politically motivated violence that emerged from the Moerane Commission of inquiry will also take place tomorrow at the Independent Police Investigative Directorate provincial offices, immediately after the briefings by Hawks and SAPS. There will also be a briefing by the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSiRA).
