Parliament, Monday, 8 December 2025 – The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training, Mr Tebogo Letsie, has noted with deep concern the misleading City Press article published on 6 December 2025, which falsely suggests that he benefitted from an R82 million security tender at the University of South Africa (Unisa).
Mr Letsie firmly rejects any association with this tender and is disturbed that his name was mentioned without any factual basis. He further notes that the journalist did not contact him for comment, despite claiming in the article to have afforded both Unisa and the Minister of Higher Education an opportunity to reply.
“It is unclear why an objective journalist would publish such serious allegations without giving me the same right of reply. This raises further questions about the intention behind linking my name to this matter and the potential motive to damage my credibility as the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education,” said Mr Letsie.
Mr Letsie will be seeking legal guidance and appropriate action against City Press for publishing an article that harms his reputation.
