Parliament, Friday, 3 July2026 – The Portfolio Committee on Tourism welcomes Emirates’ launch of a third daily flight to Cape Town, a strong vote of confidence in South Africa as a leading global tourism and business destination.

This additional daily service will increase seat capacity, improve connectivity to over 140 Emirates destinations, and make it easier for international visitors, investors and the South African diaspora to choose South Africa.

The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Tourism, Ms Ronalda Nalumango, said this exciting development happens at a time when tourism is critical to job creation and economic growth; more airlift is exactly what is needed. “The new flight will support our recovery efforts, open new markets across the Middle East and Asia, and strengthen trade and cargo links that benefit agriculture, manufacturing, and small businesses,” she continued.

The timing of the launch is welcomed. With South Africa focused on rebuilding traveller confidence and showcasing our world-class experiences, from Cape Town and the winelands to our wildlife, culture and adventure tourism, this added frequency gives international partners and travellers more choice and flexibility.

Ms Nalumango said the committee thanks Emirates for its continued partnership and commitment to South Africa. “We look forward to working together with Emirates, Airports Company South Africa and the broader tourism value chain to ensure visitors receive a seamless, safe and memorable welcome from the moment they land. Every additional flight is more jobs, more bookings and more opportunities for our people.”

She added: “Emirates’ third daily service is a clear signal that the world still wants to come to South Africa, and we are ready to welcome them. Connectivity drives competitiveness. This third daily flight puts South Africa within easier reach of millions more travellers and will help South Africa grow tourism arrivals, especially from key source markets.”

She said the addition of the third daily flight will also benefit South African businesses as fresh produce, including fruit, vegetables, meat, dairy, seafood and flowers, will be transported to other parts of the world, linking South African businesses to global markets.
