Parliament, Tuesday, 30 December 2025 - The Presiding Officers of Parliament have learned with deep sadness the news of the passing of former Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister, Ms Dikeledi Phillistus Magadzi.

Ms Magadzi’s passing marks the loss of a committed public servant whose life was devoted to service, accountability and the strengthening of democratic governance. Her contribution to Parliament, in particular, reflected a deep respect for the institution and an unwavering commitment to its constitutional mandate.

During her tenure as a Member of the National Assembly, Ms Magadzi distinguished herself through diligent committee work and principled leadership. As Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Transport, she played a central role in advancing parliamentary oversight, engaging rigorously with complex policy matters and ensuring that the voices of ordinary South Africans were reflected in legislative processes. Her leadership was marked by discipline, firmness and a clear sense of responsibility to the public interest.

Her subsequent service in the Executive, including as Deputy Minister of Transport and later as Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, was shaped by passion for service and recognition of Parliament as the primary oversight authority. Drawing on her legislative experience, Ms Magadzi approached her executive responsibilities with a clear appreciation for accountability, transparency and responsiveness to parliamentary scrutiny.

Beyond her formal roles, Ms Magadzi’s political journey was shaped by decades of activism and leadership within the broader democratic movement, particularly in advancing the participation of women in governance and public life. She served with humility, resilience and a steadfast belief in the Clcatalytic impact of democratic institutions.

The Presiding Officers honour Ms Magadzi as a servant of the people who carried her responsibilities with diligence, integrity and passion.

On behalf of Parliament, the Presiding Officers extend their heartfelt condolences to the Magadzi family, her comrades, colleagues and friends. May her soul rest in peace.
