Parliament, Sunday, 11 October 2026 – The Portfolio Committee on Social Development, and the Select Committee on Social Services invite members of the public and interested stakeholders to submit written comments on the 27 candidates shortlisted for interviews to fill 13 vacancies on the Central Drug Authority (CDA).
The public participation process forms part of Parliament’s constitutional responsibility to ensure a transparent, fair and credible appointment process for members of the CDA Board.
Section 53 (3) (b) of the Prevention of and Treatment for Substance Abuse Act 2008 (Act No.70 of 2008) stipulates that members of the CDA Board may be appointed after the National Assembly’s and the National Council of Provinces’ Social Development parliamentary committees have made recommendations to the Minister about such appointments following a transparent and open process to consider persons so nominated.

The public is invited to submit written comments on the shortlisted candidates over a two-week period from 6–20 October 2026. Following the conclusion of the public comment process, the committees will schedule interviews with the shortlisted candidates before recommending suitable nominees to the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces for consideration.
