Parliament, Friday, 29 January 2021 – The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Sports, Arts and Culture, Ms Beauty Dlulane, has said the passing of internationally renowned Sibongile Khumalo will leave a void in the South African music industry.
“On behalf of the committee, we send our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and the entire jazz community,” the chairperson said.
“Death has been unkind to South Africans who have made indelible mark on the music scene worldwide. It pains us when we have to say goodbye to stalwarts of music in the manner and frequency it is occurring. It’s starting to feel like we have lost a part of us. Sibongile had a lot to offer to up-and-coming jazz artists and musicians generally,” said Ms Dlulane.
Sibongile Khumalo passed away on Thursday, 28 January, at the age of only 62, a mere few days after the passing of another music legend, Jonas Gwangwa.
“We are saddened, and call on family and South Africans to accept this passing and that they be comforted by the legacy Sibongile has left behind. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” added Ms Dlulane.
