Parliament, Wednesday, 23 October 2023 – The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Police, My Ian Cameron, has called for community support to assist the Gauteng South African Police Service (SAPS) with information that can lead to the arrest of Pethe Sara Simiao, who is suspected to be behind the rape and murder of a six-year-old Soweto girl.

“Police and community partnerships are critical in the fight against crime and this heinous crime requires heightened collaboration. It is critical that this man is arrested so that he can face the full might of the law,” Mr Cameron emphasised.

The Chairperson has also emphasised how important it is for the community to share all the information it has with the SAPS and to desist from any temptation to take the law into their own hands. “The ultimate justice will be derived from the arrest of this man and for him to be subjected to the law. It is undoubtable that such a heinous crime was inflicted on an innocent young child, but the police must leave no stone unturned in efforts to find this man,” Mr Cameron said.

Mr Cameron has called on the SAPS to activate all necessary resources, including detectives and intelligence structures, in efforts to arrest the suspect.
