Parliament, Friday, 20 September 2024 – Limpopo's Permanent Delegates to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) and their provincial counterparts welcomed an undertaking by the Limpopo Premier, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, to ensure that relevant departments develop implementation plans for Provincial Week recommendations and report back to the delegation.
Earlier today, the joint delegation consolidated a comprehensive oversight report. It made clear recommendations regarding incomplete, delayed and abandoned provincial and municipal infrastructure projects visited over three days in the Waterberg district.
The joint delegation recommended that, among others, the responsible departments and municipalities should develop an implementation plan of recommendations with timelines. Also, they recommended that relevant departments and municipalities work together and spare no effort to ensure that delayed and abandoned projects are completed to benefit communities. The joint delegation firmly reiterated that it would not allow its oversight recommendations to be ignored without consequences.
This week’s oversight visit was jointly conducted to mark the annual NCOP Provincial Week. The focus for this year was incomplete, delayed and abandoned provincial and municipal infrastructure projects.
In Limpopo, the joint delegation focused on Waterberg District Municipality, especially projects in Lephalale, Thabazimbi and Mogalakwena local municipalities. Reports for Provincial Week will be tabled for adoption in the NCOP.
