Parliament, Wednesday, 8 April 2026 – The Portfolio Committee on Justice and Constitutional Development today shortlisted 10 candidates to fill the two vacant positions on the Information Regulator (IR).
Committee Chairperson Mr Xola Nqola said the IR currently has one vacancy for a full-time member and another for a part-time member. The committee shortlisted five candidates for interviews for the position of the full-time member and another five were shortlisted to be interviewed for the part-time position.
The full-time candidates called for interviews are Ms Ayanda Mvandaba, Ms Dineo Ramokgopa, Ms Noma-Gcina Mtshontshi, Adv Luvuyo Sandlala and Adv Khulekani Mabuza. Adv Thato Moeeng, Ms Allison Tilley, Ms Zama Awuzie, Mr Moses Mulauzi and Ms Nande Mheshe will be interviewed for the part-time position.
In terms of the Protection of Personal Information Act of 2013, members of the regulator must be appropriately qualified, fit and proper South African citizens. Furthermore, at least one of those appointed must have experience as a practising advocate or attorney, or as a professor of law at a university; the remainder must be appointed on account of any other qualifications, expertise and experience relating to the objects of the regulator.
Mr Nqola said the candidates will not undergo security vetting. The candidates are scheduled to be interviewed on 5 May 2026.
