Parliament, Wednesday, 10 June 2026 – The Portfolio Committee on Justice and Constitutional Development today finalised its interviews with candidates for the vacant positions on the Information Regulator (IR). The IR has two vacancies, one full time and one part time vacancy.
The committee interviewed three candidates today – Ms Ayanda Mvanda, Mr Moses Mulauzi and Ms Nande Mheshe. Yesterday, the committee interviewed four candidates – Ms Alison Tilley, Ms Dineo Ramokgopa, Ms Nomagcina Mtshontshi and Adv Khulekani Mabuza.
In terms of the Protection of Personal Information Act of 2013, members of the regulator must be appropriately qualified, fit and proper South African citizens. Furthermore, at least one of those appointed must have experience as a practising advocate or attorney, or a professor of law at a university; and the remainder must be appointed on account of any other qualifications, expertise and experience relating to the objects of the regulator.
Committee Chairperson, Mr Xola Nqola, expressed his appreciation to all the candidates, who “put up their hand to serve the country. We are looking for patriotic South Africans to go and meaningfully contribute to the public service”. He noted that the committee will deliberate on the interviews before making a final recommendation to the National Assembly.
