Parliament, Friday, 5 June 2026 – The Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence (JSCI) is saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Mr Edward Mzikayise Ntshingila, who was appointed as a member of the JSCI on 31 March 2025, in terms of Section 2(3)(a) of the Intelligence Services Oversight Act, 1994 (Act No 40 of 1994).

After he was sworn in as the member of the JSCI on 10 June 2025, Mr Ntshingila served with distinction. He performed his functions conscientiously and to the best of his ability and acted as guardian of the people of South Africa in exercising effective parliamentary oversight over the activities of the intelligence services of the Republic. He was cognisant of the provisions of our legislative mandate and always acted in a manner consistent with the protection of national security.

We have lost a true patriot who cared deeply for the security of our country. Our deepest condolences to the uMkhonto we Sizwe Party, his family and friends. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
