Parliament, Friday, 01 November 2024 – The Joint Standing Committee on the Financial Management of Parliament (JSCFMP) elected the National Assembly’s Mr Soviet Lekganyane and the National Council of Provinces’ Ms Sanny Ndlovu as co-chairpersons today. Under Joint Rule 96(c), one Chairperson is elected from the NA and another from the NCOP.
The co-chairpersons of a joint standing committee preside at committee meetings except when one takes the chair by agreement between them. They have the power to act in any matter on behalf of and in the best interests of the committee when it is not practical to arrange a committee meeting to discuss that matter.
The Multi-Party Women’s Caucus
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Multi-Party Women’s Caucus elected Ms Mary-Ann Lindelwa Dunjwa as Chairperson and Ms Derelene James as Deputy Chairperson. According to the Joint Rules, the Multi-Party Women’s Caucus must elect one member of the largest party as Chairperson and another member of the opposition parties as deputy.
The Caucus comprises female MPs from various political parties represented in both Houses of Parliament and is led by the Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, and Steering Committee. The names of the five-member Steering Committee will be confirmed and published when the Caucus meets again.
