Parliament, Wednesday, 19 August 2026 – The Impeachment Committee for Section 89 Enquiry today resolved to refer for a legal opinion a letter by President Cyril Ramaphosa in which he objects to the committee’s recommended evidence leader.
The committee was scheduled to receive an update regarding the appointment of the evidence leader and to deliberate further on the draft terms of reference that will guide its work.
Following deliberations that culminated in a vote, the committee resolved to consider the points the President raised and to seek advice from the Legal Services Office on the options available to the committee.
Regarding the terms of reference, the committee resolved to give Members until next Wednesday, 26 August, to provide further written submissions. The Chairperson of the committee, Mr Makashule Gana, said the written submissions will be considered at the meeting to be held on Tuesday, 1 September.
