Parliament, Friday, 24 April 2026 – The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Health, Ms Faith Muthambi, today congratulated the Mpumalanga Department of Health and the MEC for Health, Ms Sasekani Manzini, on the official launch of the state-of-the-art dialysis unit at Rob Ferreira Hospital.

“This launch marks a significant milestone for the province, as it brings life-saving services closer to communities, particularly those in rural areas”, said Ms Muthambi.
The committee commended the provincial health department for deciding to in-source renal dialysis services, thereby reversing the costly reliance on outsourced private providers.

This shift not only reduces financial pressures on the public health system but also alleviates the burden of long-distance travel for patients. The unit will provide specialised, high-quality treatment, making it accessible and affordable to those who depend on the public health system.

The Chairperson hailed the development as one that will advance public healthcare and will benefit patients who lack access to private services or live beyond the reach of urban facilities. Ms Muthambi added that the sustained investment in healthcare infrastructure is about saving lives and restoring dignity to communities that have long been left behind.
