Parliament, Thursday, 25 February 2021 – The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Health, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, has welcomed the government’s 2021 fiscal spending plans announced by the Minister of Finance, Mr Tito Mboweni, in the National Assembly (NA) yesterday.

Delivering the 2021 Budget Speech, Minister Mboweni said, the government will allocate R10.3 billion for the purchase and delivery of vaccines to fight the spread of Covid-19 in the next two years.

Welcoming the announcement, Dr Dhlomo said the budget allocation will greatly assist in the implementation of the vaccine programme as the country approaches 50 000 Covid-19-related deaths. “In conducting its oversight work and holding the executive accountable, the committee will ensure that the funds are used appropriately,” said Dr Dhlomo.
