Parliament, Tuesday, 11 November 2025 – The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Transport, Mr Donald Selamolela, said it worried the committee that the new board, which only came to office in July 2025, has already suspended the entire Road Accident Fund (RAF) management structure.
The RAF interim board appeared before the committee today to table the entity’s annual audit report. The committee accepted the report and said it will now be subjected to normal parliamentary processes building to the budget adjustment process.
“What makes the suspensions laughable is the fact that the interim board was unable to logically explain their decisions. This, even though the board is adamant that the decision was approved and concurred to by the ministry,” Mr Selamolela said.
“It seems from today’s engagements that the interim board has started on a wrong footing, without following legislative prescripts. That according to them there are none that regulate interim appointments at the entity.”
Mr Selamolela impressed on the interim board that it should avoid a situation where it becomes the source of instability at the RAF. “We will have to invite this board to come and deal with the outstanding matters, related to the annual report and audit before Parliament rises.”
He said other matters the committee will take a keen interest in is the record of decision-making and the process relating to the appointment of Mr Victor Songelwa to be interim CEO. The committee will meet with the interim board as soon as its term programme allows and before the Parliament rises at the end of the year. “The passion of serving RAF is exactly we have and we want to see people working at RAF show,” Mr Selamolela said.
