Parliament, Wednesday, 23 July 2025 – The Portfolio Committee on Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities has noted the appointment by President Cyril Ramaphosa of a new Board for the National Youth Development Youth Agency (NYDA).

Committee Chairperson, Ms Liezl van der Merwe, said that with an interim Board having been in place since November 2024, the committee welcomes the appointment of the new Board. She added that the committee was of the view that the appointment is long overdue.

Moreover, the committee was of the view that the group of young people that have been appointed by the President, have the skills and passion to take the NYDA to a new era of delivery and progress for South Africa’s youth.

The committee expressed its full faith in the new leadership of the NYDA, led by its new Chief Executive Officer. Ms van der Merwe said the committee wished the Board well in its new responsibilities.

Ms van der Merwe added: “The committee looks forward to engaging with the new Board and hopes that it will be instrumental in driving innovative solutions that will address the vast challenges faced by our young people.”

The committee will schedule a meeting with the new Board at the beginning of the third term which will start in September.
