Parliament, Monday, 12 October 2026 – The Chairperson of the Select Committee on Education, Sciences and the Creative Industries, Mr Makhi Feni, has noted the assurance that all systems are in place for the successful administration of the end-of-year Grade 12 examinations.
Mr Feni said the committee wishes all learners who will be sitting for the final examinations every success.
“We recognise that this is one of the most important and exciting phases in a learner’s schooling journey. It is a defining moment where learners come of age and make decisions and efforts that will directly shape their futures.
“The reported state of readiness is highly appreciated. We call on provinces to remain vigilant and to provide immediate support wherever it may be needed throughout the examination period. We say this because many public township and rural schools continue to face significant challenges and resource constraints,” said Mr Feni.
Minister Siviwe Gwarube led a departmental delegation during a media briefing on Sunday and assured the public that the necessary operational measures are in place to administer the examinations effectively and that learners are adequately prepared. The final examinations commence tomorrow. Mr Feni emphasised that schools in areas affected by natural disasters and fires must act swiftly to identify affected learners and provide them with the necessary support.
“Examinations should take place under conditions that are as conducive as possible for all learners, and we expect the Department of Basic Education to fulfil its responsibilities diligently. Officials must monitor schools closely and address challenges as soon as they arise.
“We wish all learners every success in what a month-long test of their knowledge, resilience and determination will be. We encourage them to remain focused, work hard and approach the examinations with confidence. The committee has every confidence in their ability to make the most of this opportunity,” concluded Mr Feni.
