Parliament, Friday, 28 March 2025 – The Portfolio Committee on Social Development welcomes the two months extension period granted by Postbank and the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) for beneficiaries to continue using the gold cards while the transition to the Postbank black cards is taking place.

The committee urges beneficiaries to swop their gold cards for black cards before the end of May 2025. The two months extension period is final, there will be no alternative means for beneficiaries to access their grants when the two months lapses.

Postbank has requested beneficiaries who still have gold cards not to use the Post Office to access their grants. Furthermore, beneficiaries are urged to know that cardless services are no longer available and no beneficiaries have been registered for cardless services.

The Chairperson of the committee, Ms Bridget Masango, appeals to all beneficiaries who have not swoped their gold cards for black cards to ensure that they do so within the granted period. “The committee is with you in this journey of changing to the new black cards, please get your black cards within this extended period to avoid the unbearable consequences of not accessing your grant without a black card,” appealed Ms Masango.
