Parliament, Wednesday, 18 August 2021 – The Portfolio Committee on Health has today elected, Mr Tshilidzi Munyai, as an Acting Chairperson following the appointment of the former Chairperson, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, as the Deputy Minister of Health.

Mr Munyai will act in the position until the election of the new chairperson. Mr Munyai has been a member of Parliament since the establishment of the sixth Parliament after the 2019 general elections. He has been a Member of the committee since its establishment in 2019. He understands the mandate of the committee over the Department of Health and its entities and the role of the committee in the entire health sector.

He has added a meaningful value to the committee since his deployment to it in 2019. Mr Munyai holds a Bachelor of Administration (Honours) Public Policy, a certificate in International Relations and Political Economy from the London School of Economics.

Mr Munyai has a sound leadership experience which he gained from various leadership positions he held within his political party, the African National Congress (ANC). The leadership positions he held include Head of Election Research, Chairperson of Ideology, Political Education and Training – Walter Sisulu Leadership Academy and Regional Secretary of the ANC Ekurhuleni Region.
