Parliament, Tuesday, 2 May 2023 – The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Ms Nompendulo Mkhatshwa, has on behalf of the committee, expressed heartfelt condolences to Kgwadi family on the passing of Professor Daniel Kgwadi, who was the Vice Chancellor of the Vaal University of Technology (VUT).
Professor Kgwadi passed away on Sunday, 30 April 2023. The higher education sector acknowledges the meaningful contribution which Prof Kgwadi has made on the entire higher education sector. Before he was the Vice-Chancellor of the VUT, he was the Vice Chancellor of the North West University. He served on Umalusi Council and on other various professional bodies where he left a shining legacy.
The committee last interacted directly with Prof Kgwadi on 30 November 2022 in Parliament where he engaged the committee on the importance of stabilising management and governance at VUT to ensure that the university performed well on its core business which is the academic programme to provide the university students with sound university education, knowledge and skills that are responsive to the South African industry and in the world.
The committee is behind the Kgwadi family during this very difficult time of grief and morning and extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, colleagues of Prof Kgwadi and the entire VUT community. “May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
