Parliament, Friday, 21 March 2025 – The Portfolio Committee on Social Development urges South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) gold card beneficiaries who could not migrate to the Postbank black card to use the available Postbank cardless services while waiting to transition to the new cards.
Although yesterday, 20 March 2025, was the deadline and the gold cards stopped working, Postbank continues to issue black cards until 30 June 2025. SASSA will continue to pay monies to beneficiaries’ accounts and beneficiaries can access their grants using the Post Office withdrawal process and through the retailers’ cardless payment method for beneficiaries who are registered for it.
The committee has noted the long queues at Postbank sites and called for patience and urged beneficiaries to direct queries and concerns to the officials at SASSA and Postbank offices.
The committee is looking forward to achieving the primary objectives of switching from the old SASSA gold cards to the new Postbank black cards to modernize, tighten the grant payment system, enhance security and reliability for beneficiaries, and ensure compliance with updated banking standards. Furthermore, it called for new beginnings and adherence to good ethics.
