Parliament, Sunday, 20 October 2024 - The Select Committee on Education, Science, and the Creative Industries has wished all grade 12 learners that will be sitting for their final examinations, starting on Monday.
The Chairperson of the committee, Mr Makhi Feni, said it gave the committee a great sense of relief to be at this stage of the year for the grade 12 learners. He said: “We wish all those that will be sitting for this examination all of the best. The committee is satisfied that the Department has done all it could to provide support for these learners. Various programmes had been implemented to the satisfaction of all concerned and we are excited.”
Mr Feni said throughout the year the Department of Basic Education has ensured adequate provision of learning materials in support of curriculum and learning needs for this group.
The Minister of the department, Ms Siviwe Gwarube, announced that it was all systems go for the examinations. The committee will also undertake a two-day oversight visit to Gauteng schools to make sure that what is promised is what has been delivered on the ground.
“It gives the committee great pleasure to bear witness to these successes. This group is testament that democracy is real in our country and that for 30 years our government has been able to put through such a number of learners through quality education,” said Mr Feni.
He said the committee hoped that the exams are not engulfed with unnecessary hiccups and that quality assured exam papers are delivered on time to venues across the country.
Again the committee wishes all the learners who will sit for the examinations well.
