Media Statement: Committee Concludes Shortlisting Process for Filling of Vacancies in the Commission for Gender Equality

Parliament, Friday, 26 August 2022 – The Portfolio Committee on Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities has concluded a two-day shortlisting process for the filling of vacancies in the Commission for Gender Equality.

The committee considered the geographic spread and demographics of the candidates as well as gender and disability in keeping with the criteria espoused in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa Act No.108 of 1996 and the Commission for Gender Equality Act No. 39 of 1996.

Consequently, the committee was able to shortlist 24 candidates. The names of the candidates will then appear on parliamentary website from 30th August—16 September 2022 for public comment in accordance with section 59(1)(a) of the Constitution, which allows public participation in other processes of the committee.

The committee agreed as per the programme that interviews will be scheduled between the 20th and 22nd of September 2022 and will be conducted in person at Parliament. Here below are the 24 candidates that were shortlisted:
