Parliament, Thursday, 31 December 2020 – The Chairpersons of the Select Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Water and Sanitation and Human Settlements; and the Select Committee on Security and Justice are saddened by the untimely passing of Mr Simon Mfayela MP.
The Chairpersons said death has once again robbed Parliament of a committed servant of the people who has always ensured that quality service is rendered to the people. Although he joined the National Council of Provinces after the 2019 elections, he has made a considerable impact in holding the executive accountable. According to the Chairpersons, despite his soft-spoken nature, he asked pertinent and probing questions to the executive.
His deep commitment to the oversight work of Parliament was indicated by the number of committees he served on, and the quality contribution he made to all those committees. Parliament and the committees he has served on are today poorer without his insightful contribution.
The Chairpersons of the committees he served on extend their heartfelt condolences to the Mfayela family and friends and wish them strength through this very difficult time.
