Parliament, Thursday, 5 March 2026 – The Chairperson of the Select Committee on Public Infrastructure and Minister in the Presidency, Mr Rikus Badenhorst, has welcomed the launch of the Western Cape Government’s new Roads4U mobile application.

Mr Badenhorst said the Roads4U app marks an important step forward in modernising infrastructure management and strengthening collaboration between government and residents. “I would like to congratulate the Western Cape Department of Infrastructure and Minister Tertuis Simmers on the successful rollout of this innovative digital platform,” said Mr Badenhorst.

He added: “Effective road infrastructure is a critical enabler of economic growth, job creation and safe mobility. When roads function well, goods move efficiently to market, tourism flourishes and commuters travel safely to work and school. Tools such as the Roads4U app demonstrate how technology can be used to strengthen accountability and accelerate service delivery.”

The application empowers residents across the Western Cape to play an active role in maintaining the province’s road network. Users can quickly report issues such as potholes, damaged road surfaces, faulty traffic signals, faded road markings and vegetation overgrowth directly from their smartphones. With automatic GPS pinning, photo uploads and a built-in tracking system, the app allows road users to submit accurate information while also following the progress of repairs.

Importantly, the system also improves coordination between different authorities. Reports that fall under the jurisdiction of SANRAL or municipal road networks can be automatically routed to the relevant authority, ensuring that issues are directed to the correct team without unnecessary delays.

This initiative reflects the Western Cape Government’s continued commitment to innovation, responsive governance and infrastructure excellence. By placing practical tools in the hands of citizens, the province is demonstrating how technology can strengthen public participation while improving service delivery outcomes.

Mr Badenhorst said: “Across South Africa, we must increasingly embrace solutions that make infrastructure maintenance more efficient, transparent and collaborative. The Roads4U app provides a practical example of how digital innovation can support better governance.”

I commend Minister Simmers and the Western Cape Department of Infrastructure for this forward-thinking initiative which has been developed in-house without the assistance of consultants. We encourage residents across the province to make use of the platform to help keep our roads safe and well-maintained, added Mr Badenhorst.
