Parliament, Saturday, 30 October 2021 – The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Health, Dr Kenneth Jacobs, has noted with appreciation and welcomes the deployment of 938 mobile vaccine units by the Department of Health and its private healthcare partners on the election day, 1 November 2021.

“We have noted that many of these vaccine sites will be located at the door step of voting stations. We are calling on South Africans who have been not vaccinated to use this opportunity to be vaccinated so that we can avert the anticipated outbreak of the 4th wave at the end of November,” said Dr Jacobs.

Dr Jacobs praised health workers for their continued demonstration of selflessness by rendering service to the people of South Africa at a time when that service is really needed and when it is risky to render it. “The Portfolio Committee on Health adds its voice to South Africans who have expressed their indebtedness to all health workers for their readiness to render the required vaccination service during the local government elections,” added Dr Jacobs.

Vaccination is one of the few hopes of the world in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. Vaccines have proven to be highly effective around the world in lowering infection, transmission, hospitalisation and death rate. Furthermore, they save lives and livelihoods. South Africans who are over 60 years old or with serious comorbidities remain at risk.
